All Dogs Go To Heaven

by Roger Ratliff

A close companion
and a friend so dear
They warm our hearts
when they are near

Their goal in life
is to please their master
But when left alone
they can find disaster

"Get off that bed!"
and down they fly,
But they'll go right back
cause all dogs lie

They'll chew on this,
and they'll gnaw on that
And when you're not looking,
they'll chase the cat

That guilty look
and that sulking walk
Sometimes you'd swear
that dog could talk

It's sad dogs die
before we will
And there's no replacement
for the grief we feel

But all God's creatures,
whether beast or man
Are all a part
of a master plan

So, when our day comes,
I'll speculate
Our dogs are waiting
at Heaven's Gate
